Longview is one of the only fully planned cities in the country — built in the 1920s by timber baron R.A. Long with wide streets, curved residential blocks, and a 3.5-mile man-made lake, Lake Sacajawea, running straight through the middle of town. That planned layout actually makes our local moving jobs more predictable than most: the Civic Center historic district near the Monticello Hotel and R.A. Long Park has some of the oldest housing stock, while the Highlands sits on higher ground with a more suburban, spread-out feel. West Longview and the Olympic neighborhood mix older homes with mid-century construction, and downtown’s original Broadway/Commerce Avenue grid was actually designed with automobile bypass roads in mind — meaning move-day routing through downtown is easier here than in a lot of comparably sized cities.
