License and Address Questions
Do I need a new driver's license when I move within Oregon?
No. Oregon stopped issuing address stickers in 2020, and you do not need a new card when your address changes. You only need to report the new address to DMV within 30 days. A replacement card with the new address is optional and costs $30.
How long do I have to change my address in Washington?
Washington requires you to update your address with the Department of Licensing within 10 days of moving. You can do it online or by mailing the Change of Address form.
Does changing my license address update my vehicle registration?
In Oregon, yes. DMV uses your new address to update your vehicle records. In Washington, no. A driver license address change does not update your vehicle registration, so change it separately.
I live in Vancouver, WA and work in Portland. Which license do I need?
Your license follows where you live, not where you work. If your home is in Vancouver or anywhere else in Washington, you need a Washington license, even if you commute to Oregon every day.
Can I change my address online if I just moved to the state?
No. Online address changes are for people who already hold that state's license. New residents need to apply for a new license in person within 30 days, at an Oregon DMV office or a Washington licensing office.
Does the post office update my DMV address?
No. A USPS change of address forwards your mail but does not update your DMV or DOL record. You need to update your license address separately.
