Vacation Homes Along the Beach

Purchasing a vacation home is very exciting. The new home will allow you and your family to get away whenever you like. You can entertain family and friends and even create rental income to help pay the mortgage.

This post is all about setting up and getting settled in your new vacation home.

The following topics are discussed:

  • Decorate with Renters in Mind
  • Furnish on a Budget
  • Hire Movers or Local Deliveries

Decorate with Renters in Mind

If you are buying a vacation home with the intent of renting it part of the time, decorate your new home with that in mind.

Make sure everything is durable, easy to wash, and attractive. Paint the walls with colorful, high-gloss paint that is attractive and which resists wear.

For the dining area, for example, consider a glass table or cover a wood table with a piece of glass. Then, use removable cushions for the dining chairs.

Furnish on a Budget

While you want your vacation home to look great, you also don’t want to spend an arm and a leg furnishing a home that you might rent to strangers or won’t use full-time.

To save a bit of money, you might consider shopping in a consignment store. There, you are likely to find high-quality furniture for a fraction of what it would be worth new. You might be able to find some unique pieces that will make your vacation home stand out as a real getaway.

You might also consider shopping thrift stores for china and flatware. There’s no need to spend a lot of money, and thrift stores often have rather high-quality items that look great, are long-lasting, and which cost a fraction of the price you’ll find new.

Hire Movers or Local Deliveries

If you’re buying a vacation home, you have one of two options: (1) pack your furniture and belongings in your home, then hire professional movers to transport and unpack at the getaway home; or (2) purchase everything near your destination and have them delivered locally.

Depending on how far you live from the vacation house, you might save by hiring movers. If you opt for the second option, you may end up spending more for your items to be shipped and installed. Whereas if you hired a professional moving company, those services would be included in your moving cost.
