If you are moving to the Bethany neighborhood of Portland, you have chosen a special place indeed! Bethany is close enough to downtown Portland to take advantage of shopping, culture, and work opportunities, while remaining far enough away to allow you and your family time to enjoy the peace and quiet of the suburbs.
Location, Location, Location
Bethany is in Northwest Portland, but on the west side of Forest Park. In fact, Bethany is 25 minutes from downtown Portland and 15 minutes from Beaverton. It’s just to the north of the Sunset Highway (OR-26) which will take you clear to the ocean in under two hours. If you like shopping, the Tanasbourne shopping area is close by, and you can even jaunt into downtown Portland for the flagship Powell’s bookstore, unique boutiques, and Pioneer Place on 5th Ave
Bethany is home to a campus of Portland Community College, a campus which features sports facilities in addition to excellent educational opportunities. Lewis and Clark University, a private institution, is close by in Beaverton. Downtown Portland offers Portland State University, which has a full range of graduate and undergraduate programs. For the younger kids, the neighborhood is part of the Beaverton school district.
You have hit the jackpot for entertainment if you’re in Bethany. Portland offers such a wide range of opportunities for music alone. Whether you’re interested in some hot underground jazz, a large touring rock band, or opera, Portland has you covered. There are many theater groups throughout the area performing anything from Shakespeare to a fun musical show. There are art galleries galore and you might get dizzy trying to figure out which movie theater to visit.
Off to Work
As far as work is concerned, Bethany is in a great position. You can find many opportunities in Downtown Portland, or maybe you’d prefer an exciting career with Nike in nearby Beaverton. Travel and Leisure
Portland is home to an international airport which offers non-stop flights to Europe and also flights headed to the Far East. Nearby, you can find excellent skiing and snowboarding on Mount Hood and then Bend has even more winter sports activities just a three-hour drive away. If you like to go hiking on a regular basis, Forest Park is virtually in your back yard. This municipal park has approximately 70 miles of trail through pristine old-growth forest.
