Moving Season Tip: How Far in Advance to Book Movers

Moving in Spring in Portland Oregon

One of my least favorite conversations I have with potential customers is when I have to inform them that we do not have any availability left for their move. And since Spring is the best time to move and to sell your home, availability is even lower. This is usually because they have waited until just days before their move to call and book, or sometimes it is because they were late finding out about the closing of their home.

This is usually because they have waited until just days before their move to call and book, or sometimes it is because they were late finding out about the closing of their home.

Either way, it’s hard to tell someone who is counting on you to help them that you cannot accommodate their needs. If it were up to me, we would have infinite availability and accommodate all who inquire.

Since this isn’t the case, it’s important for our customers to know how far in advance to book movers.

Book Your Moving Company As Soon As Possible

Pretty straightforward, right?

Once you know your exact date, don’t waste a day getting in contact with your moving company of choice (if you live in the Hillsboro or Portland area, give us a call).

2 months in advance may seem like a long time, for example, but booking your reservation will assure that you aren’t left in the dust. Getting that off your plate will also allow you to focus on packing in a timely manner without the rush or stress.

If you’re booking last minute, this is really your only option. It’s likely we won’t be able to accommodate your request, but in the likelihood of a cancellation, you’ll be better off that those who didn’t reach out.

Reservations fill up quickly during peak moving season, so getting the day of your choice is sometimes a matter of hours. Once you know, get a quote ASAP.

Book Your Movers At Least 4 Weeks in Advance

While earlier is still better, 4 weeks is generally a safe bet to book your ideal time (give or take a day or two) during peak season.

That means if you’re planning on buying/selling a home, moving to a new place, or even retiring to the coast, plan your dates to give you at least a month to move.

There is always a lot going on in the midst of a move and it’s best not to assume that you can wait to schedule closer to your move date. You may find yourself scrambling to find a mover, which can lead to settling for a low-quality provider or nothing at all.
